Hospital organises campaign for Heart Week

A number of activities will be held on the Peninsula for Heart Week from May 2 to 8.

They have been organised as part of Brisbane Waters Private Hospital’s community health campaign.

Deepwater Plaza will host events from 9am to noon on Monday, May 3, including a line dancing display, free blood pressure checks and chest pain emergency service information and registration forms.

Colouring-in competition entries from local schools will be displayed and the winner announced at 10am by local artist Paul Haggith

Brisbane Waters Private Hospital hosts events for Tuesday, May 4. Starting 10am, North Sydney Bears, Jason Taylor and Steve Trindell will participate in healthy heart assessments, Gosford mayor Cr Chris Holstein will sign up as a chest pain registrant and free cholesterol checks will be conducted by Douglass Pathology. A cardiologist will attend cardiac assessments of guests.

On Wednesday, May 5, staff from the hospital will attend local clubs offering free blood pressure checks and information on chest pain emergency service: Woy Woy Bowling Club 11.30am to 12.30pm, Everglades Country Club 12.30pm to 1.30pm, Ettalong War Memorial Club 1.45pm to 2.45pm.

The hospital will provide a free “healthy heart breakfast” from 7 to 10am on Thursday, May 6.

Free cholesterol checks will be held by Douglass Pathology.

On the Friday, the hospital will hold a focus group of heart surgery patients over the past six months, a sharing of information and suggestions over morning tea at 10.30am.

Staff lunchtime walks will be held at noon and 12.45pm.
