Expressions of interest for Central Coast Council’s six new advisory groups opened on March 1, and Council has made the application form available on its yourvoiceourcoast website.
The closing date for community members to apply to join one of the groups will be March 21, after which a report will be provided to councillors on April 9, recommending appointments of community members, for them to consider.
The six new advisory groups include: a Catchments and Coast Committee for Brisbane Water and Gosford Lagoons; another group for Tuggerah Lakes; a Coastal Open Space System (COSS) committee; an Employment and Economic Development Committee; a Gosford CBD and Waterfront Advisory Committee; and, a Heritage Advisory Committee.
Mayor Jane Smith said groups have been established in the key strategic areas that Council is focussed on progressing in the best possible way for the Coast, and they are a chance for community members to be actively involved in finding solutions.
“This is a real opportunity for those with a real passion, interest and expertise in our environment, waterways, economic development and heritage, to bring that to the table, and directly feed into Council decision-making,” Mayor Smith said.
“We are a large Council area, representing over 330,000 residents, and we need to ensure that we are providing as many avenues as possible for community voice and representation, and these Groups are one part of that,”
The Groups will also contain representation from Council staff in the relevant area, and Councillors will also be invited to nominate for membership of the Groups.
