Winney Bay stage two to be the subject of additional community consultation

The plans for the next stage of works at Winney Bay will be the subject of an additional round of community consultation before work begins, according to Councillor, Jeff Sundstrom.
“The way I look at it is that it is another legacy from the old Council in one sense,” Clr Sundstrom said.
“We understand and are working on the fact that the community consultation was lacking and was a long time ago,” he said.
“I will be having a meeting with the Mayor and with the Director, Boris Bolgoff, shortly.
“There was a meeting some months ago, after the community meeting at Copacabana, and we can look forward to the second stage being put on exhibition for community consultation.”
Member for Terrigal, Adam Crouch, and NSW Premier, Gladys Berejiklian, announced $4.6m in funding for the next stage of works at Winney Bay when they were at the 2018 5 Lands Walk in June.
Clr Sundstrom, who is also standing as Labor’s candidate against Mr Crouch in the state electorate of Terrigal said: “The Member for Terrigal has indicated that if there is change to the design of stage 2, it may endanger the funding,” Sundstrom said.
“The community would be disappointed to learn that funding could be lost as a result of their vision for that walkway as expressed through thorough community consultation,” he said.
He also commented on a brochure which he believed was letterbox dropped by Adam Crouch around Copacabana.
“Does the announcement tell households that the Winney Bay Clifftop Walk has been delivered and, if so, does funding equal delivery?
“I think the author of the pamphlet conflated the two stages of the project, it is misleading and only serves to confuse the issue.
“Among all the confusion that this pamphlet creates, one thing is certain, stage two is not ‘delivered’,” he said.
The Member for Terrigal, Adam Crouch, has been asked to respond to Clr Sundstrom’s comments and his response will be published in a future edition of Coast Community News.
