Volunteers should have their insurance paid

Letters to the editorLetters to the editor

[Forum] Australia is a nation that needs volunteers, but most of them will not come forward because of insurance.

Under the Howard Government, our then Local Member, Jim Lloyd and Larry Anthony, approached the Treasurer for grants to be given to volunteer groups to cover insurance. Unless the government come forward, volunteering in the nation will disappear. Taxes will have to rise to cover public servants instead. I am asking local members to step forward and make the same deal and proposal to the Treasurer to cover insurance, or have the insurance paid, and make a government body available for this purpose.
