A Christmas campaign coordinated by a Pearl Beach resident to create care packs for homeless people has exceeded its target.
Ms Lynne Cappella launched her registered charity Homeless Support in 2018.
Teaming up with the Pearl Beach Progress Association, Ms Cappella also launched the charity’s first major project, the 2018 Christmas Backpack.
“We asked individuals and organisations to help us fill backpacks with items so very much appreciated by a homeless person,” said Association publicity officer Ms Lynne Lillico.
“The contents of each filled backpack costs about $50 and our goal for the Central Coast was 50 backpacks.
“There were a number of small parties and fundraising events organised including drinks parties, dinners and the most successful afternoon tea with over 50 locals coming along.
“At the Community Christmas Dinner, we asked each table to fill one or two backpacks, again a resounding success,” she said.
To date Homeless Support has raised $5000 in cash, $250 worth of Opal Cards and created 75 backpacks filled with essential items and special gifts for the homeless.
In addition to that, the charity also produced 55 of the backpacks for the homeless around Martin Place and Woolloomooloo and a further 50 for Liverpool.
