Local businesses are finalists in Sydney Markets’ Fresh Awards

Kathy and Rick Eagle are 2019 Fresh Award finalists

Ourimbah’s Eagle’s Green Supplies has been named a finalist in Sydney Markets’ 2019 Fresh Awards.
The Awards celebrate best practice and excellence in the fresh produce industry, and Eagle’s Green Supplies are hoping to win the coveted Flower Grower of the Year.
Owned and operated by, Kathy and Rick Eagle, Eagle’s Green Supplies is a wholesale florist supplier.
Rick and Kathy are the third generation owners of the business, which previously traded under the name, Goldenvale Nursery, and between them they have over 30 years of experience producing and supplying some of the best flowers and foliage in Greater Sydney.
No stranger to Sydney Markets, Kathy has been selling her family’s flowers since she was 15.
She has extensive knowledge of floristry from both a wholesaler and retailer’s perspective and it was her love of flowers that saw husband Rick convert his career as a mechanic into that of a fellow green thumb.
The couple have been involved in all things Goldenvale since 1982 before taking over in 2012 and putting their own stamp on the business with the rebranding into Eagle’s Green Supplies.
This is the second time Rick and Kathy have been nominated, with the couple thrilled to make the finals.
“Considering the awards are open to all growers and producers across NSW/ACT, to make the final four is quite the achievement.
“We’re honoured.
“Fingers crossed this is our year,” Rick said.
Fellow local growers, S&P Dominello, based at Peats Ridge, are also finalists in the Flower Grower of the Year.
All up this year, there are 60 greengrocers, florists, growers, wholesalers and bloggers up for awards across 15 categories, with winners set to be announced at the Fresh Awards Gala to be held in Sydney on July 24.
The retailers and growers are evaluated through an intensive mystery shopping program and industry assessment.
They are judged on everything from produce quality and freshness, customer service and industry knowledge, as well as their store appearance and innovative approaches.
Brad Latham, CEO of Sydney Markets, said: “These businesses work tirelessly to provide their customers and communities with fresh, locally sourced produce and they deserve to be recognised for their excellence.
“The Fresh Awards shines a light on the achievements of local business owners, talent and the fresh industry as a whole,” Latham said.
Mangrove Mountain’s, Delightfully Fresh Organics, are also 2019 finalists, but in the Producer of the Year category.
